MONASTÈRE DE ŽITOMISLIĆ
Serbian Orthodox monastery near the Neretva River with a store selling icons, wine, rakija and honey.
Located right next to the Neretva River, this Serbian Orthodox monastery (Manastir Žitomislić/Манастир Житомислић) was founded in 1566. It was among the three most important Serbian religious centers in Herzegovina along with those in Tvrdoš (Trebinje) and Zavala (Ravno). It was looted many times and completely destroyed twice by Croatian nationalists in 1941 and 1992. But it was rebuilt again "in the old way" in 2002-2005. The four monks who occupy the place today offer icons, wine, rakija and honey in their store.
