KRAVICA FALLS
Waterfalls surrounded by lush vegetation, leaping 26 to 28 m over a vast arc 120 m wide.
These waterfalls (Vodopad Kravica) are among the most beautiful in Europe. Unfortunately, the site is copiously spoiled by awful tourist facilities: concrete paths, plastic footbridges over the water, cafes-restaurants of dubious taste and swimming area delimited by unsightly buoys. This complex sold under the English name of Oasis in Stone is also the most expensive place to visit in the country. Here the small river Trebižat jumps from 26 to 28 meters in height over a large arc of 120 meters in width. This tributary of the Neretva River has been depositing small tuff particles here for thousands of years, which over time have formed magnificent waterfalls surrounded by lush nature. It is true that the Kravica Falls are reminiscent, in a miniature version, of those of Iguazú, located on the border between Argentina and Brazil. Two old stone watermills from the Ottoman period have been preserved on the heights, along the path leading down from the huge parking lot. But due to the large number of visitors, the latter is not free in summer. Another negative element to take into account before considering a visit here. Free alternative: the Koćuša Falls (Koćuša Vodopad), near Veljaci, 10 km northwest of Ljubuški. Here the Mlade River falls 5 m high and about 30 m wide, shortly before joining the Trebižat. This is also a good place for swimming, with benches, a restaurant and a parking lot. There is still a working mill.
