LAC KLINJE
Artificial lake with a dam built of mortared stone blocks, 104 m long and 26 m high.
Located at 1,030 m above sea level, this artificial lake (Jezero Klinje/Језеро Клиње) covers 26 ha. Fed by the rivers Vrba, Dramešinka and Žanjevica, it was created in 1896 to supply water to the town of Gacko and the Gacko polje. Therefore, the lake is partly emptied in summer. The waters are retained by a dam which was conceived by a French engineer in the service of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Measuring 104 m in length and 26 m in height, it is built of stone blocks bound together by a mortar made of volcanic ash from Vesuvius, Italy.
