OSTROŽAC FORTRESS
A fortress with beautiful towers and roofs, one of the most elegant in the country and one of the least authentic.
Overlooking the Una River at 500 m above sea level, this fortress (Tvrđava Ostrožac) is one of the most elegant in the country and one of the least authentic: the southern part overlooking the river, with its beautiful towers and roofs evoking the 15th century, dates from the 1900s. The place is nevertheless full of history. This 13th century castle, transformed into a palace in the 19th century, was briefly used as a partisan headquarters in 1943. In the years 1960-1990, it hosted artists who left dozens of sculptures in the courtyard. In summer, it is used as a venue for concerts.
