MOSQUÉE LALA-PACHA
Renovated mosque next to an old mekteb, with 23.80 m high minaret, modern porch and square prayer room.
This domed mosque (Lala Pašina Džamija) was founded in 1576 by Lala Mustafa Pasha (1500-1580), an Ottoman general who conquered Cyprus and was a member of the illustrious Bosnian family of Sokolović. It is also called the Beglučka Mosque, since it is located next to a former mekteb (Koranic school) founded by the Beglek family and now disappeared. Damaged during the last war and renovated in 1998, it has a 23.80 m high minaret, a modern porch, a small cemetery and an almost square prayer hall (8.60 x 8.65 m) with a beautiful carved mihrab.
