NÉCROPOLE MÉDIÉVALE DE RAVANJSKA VRATA
Archaeological site featuring two zones, the lower necropolis with 43 stećci and the upper with 25 stećci.
Placed in a passage between two hills and two poljes, this archaeological site (Nekropola Ravanjska Vrata) houses 68 stećci, tombs from the 12th-15th centuries linked to the Bogomil Christian movement and/or the Bosnian Church. It is one of the twenty-two medieval necropolises in the country classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2016. There are two areas. Near the road, the lower necropolis has forty-three stećci, twenty of which are slabs, twenty in the shape of a trunk and three others known as "gabled roof". Eighteen are decorated: geometric and vegetal motifs, hunting and kolo (circular group dance) scenes, a hand with a sword, a shield with a sword, two women and a man with a horse. The upper necropolis, meanwhile, has twenty-five stećci, including ten slabs, eight chests, and seven "gabled roofs." Fifteen are decorated with finely executed scenes of tournaments on horseback under archways. There are also crescent moons, crosses, a hand, a shield with a sword, a staff and a stag. The entire site is easily accessible and is located near the hamlets of Mušić (1 km southwest) and Gornje Ravno (600 m southeast), each of which has about 20 inhabitants. There are other similar necropolises in the vicinity, but the hills were mined during the last war and not all of them are 100% secure. On the other hand, you can use the trails for mountain biking without worry.
