NIŞAN D'OMER-AGA BAŠIĆ
Typical Ottoman stele, 4.12 m high with a 2 m diameter turban, carved from a single block of stone.
Located in a Muslim cemetery, this nişan (Omer-Aga Bašić Nišan) is the largest in the Balkans. Carved from a single block of stone, this typical Ottoman stele stands 4.12 m high with a turban 2 m in diameter. The inscription indicates that this is the burial place of Omer-Aga Bašić, who died in 1798. Probably an important personage, but no more is known about it. The fact that this nişan was spared from the wars gives rise to all sorts of legends, as does the enigmatic split stećak, placed on the side of the road 2.2 km further south.
