FORTERESSE DE GLAMOČ
A hilltop fortress with a 15 m-high tower and the remains of several buildings, including a mosque.
Set on a hill overlooking Glamoč at an altitude of over 1,000 m, this fortress (Glamočka Tvrđava) dates from the 14th century. Profoundly altered by the Ottomans, it was partially demolished in 1882. It retains a 15 m high tower and the remains of several buildings, including a mosque inside which the mihrab carved in stone is still visible. The site offers a beautiful view of the area with, just below, the modern Catholic church of St. Elias of Glamoč (2014) erected next to the ruins of the one destroyed in 1992.
