FORTERESSE DE SAMOBOR
Impressive medieval fortress ruins above the Janjina canyon, with a steep path leading to part of the remains.
The ruins of this medieval fortress (Stari Grad Samobor/Стари град Самобор) are impressive: they stand at 720 m above sea level in the Borovska massif (1,387 m) and above the canyon of the Janjina, a river that flows into the Drina 1 km away. A steep path allows to reach a part of the remains. But the main tower (11 m high), built on a rocky spur, is inaccessible. The fortress was erected at the end of the 14th century by the Bosnian noble family of Kosača and remained occupied by the Ottomans until 1832.
