MONASTÈRE SAINT-BASILE-D'OSTROG DE BIJELJINA
Cathedral-monastery with a 37 m-high belfry, home to a community of five nuns and the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy.
Featuring a 37-meter-high belfry, this monastery-cathedral (Manastir Sveti Vasilija Ostroškog/Манастир Светог Василија Острошког) dates from 2001. Grandiloquent but charmless, the complex houses a community of five nuns and the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Zvornik-Tuzla, moved to Bijeljina since 1992. There are frescoes by Serbian painter Dragan Marunić (1942-2017), a museum of icons as well as a relic of the saint and Herzegovinian metropolitan Basil of Ostrog (1610-1671).
