LAC PROKOŠKO
A "natural monument" lake surrounded by wooden chalets at an altitude of 1,670 m, home to rare species including an endemic alpine newt.
This 5 ha lake is classified as a "natural monument" (Spomenik Prirode Prokoško Jezero) with a protected area of 22 km2. Located at an altitude of 1,670 m, it enjoys a magnificent setting with the Vranica massif dominating to the west, reaching 2,112 m in altitude at Mount Nadkrstac, the fifth highest peak in the country. Much frequented in summer by the inhabitants of Novi Travnik, Bugojno and Fojnica, the lake is surrounded by wooden chalets from the 1960s. Despite this, it is home to several rare species, including an endemic alpine newt,Ichthyosaura alpestris reiseri.
