MALIK IBN DINAR MOSQUE
Mosque, the only one left of the 9 built by Malik Ibn Dinar, whose distinctive feature is a floor made of Meccan marble
Founded in the early 8th century, it is believed to be the only surviving mosque of the nine built by Malik Ibn Dinar, an Arab missionary who came from Iraq with his family to spread Islam along the Malabar coast. It was rebuilt in 1809 and is said to be the second oldest mosque in Kerala. A special feature of this mosque is its floor, built with marble from Mecca. Several historians maintain that he died in Kasaragod around 748 and that the tomb inside the mosque is indeed that of Malik Ibn Dinar.
