MONASTÈRE SAINT-JEAN-LE-THÉOLOGIEN DE CERKOVICA
Rarely open to visitors, this monastery, built in 1600, gives its name to the Theologos river and the region. Beautiful landscapes.
Now abandoned, this Greek Orthodox monastery (Manastiri i Shën Janit Theollogut, Μονή Αγίου Ιωάννου του Θεολόγου/Moni Agiou Ioannou tou Theologou) gives its name to the Theologos river and the Cerkovica region. Erected in 1600, it was an episcopal see and an important educational center for the Greeks of southwest Albania. Although usually closed, it is a pleasant stop-off point on the path up to the ruins of the ancient fortress of Maliçan/Maltsiani.
