FORTERESSE DE ÇUKA E AJTOIT
Fine remains of ancient Chaonian fortifications on an astonishing conical hill, 8 km northwest of Konispol.
This ancient fortress (Kalaja e Cukës e Ajtoit) rises above the village of Çiflik, at an altitude of 330 m, on a beautiful conical hill. Its name derives from the Greek toponym Korifi tou Aetou, meaning "eagle's peak". Powerful stone walls 3.5 m wide are still visible. These are the remains of fortifications built from the 4th century BC onwards by the Greek tribe of Chaonians to protect Butrint. The 7.5-hectare site was occupied until the early Middle Ages.
