Early Ottoman bridge over the Zagoria between Ndëran and Nivan. Two abandoned monasteries along the trail.
This beautiful 34-meter-long Ottoman bridge (Ura e Nivanit) spans the Zagoria between Ndëran (on the left bank) and Nivan (on the right bank). Access is via a 1.2 km path leading down from Ndëran. Recently restored, it was built in the early 19th century to enable merchant caravans to link the towns of Përmet and Gjirokastra. On the way up to Nivan, you can stop off to discover the abandoned Orthodox monasteries of Archangel Michael and the Taxiarchs (18th century).
