ABBAZIA DI FARNETA
At an altitude of 317 meters, this abbey was founded by Benedictine monks in the and centuries.
In the small village of Farneta (population 650), this abbey was founded by Benedictine monks in the 9th and 10th centuries. The baptismal font dates from 1712, when the Olivetan monks arrived. The stained-glass windows were made by Bruschi in Florence. In 1940, after 350 years of neglect, the crypt underwent major renovation. Now sober and polished by the passage of time, we can only imagine that Farneta Abbey was the seat of a flourishing and numerous monastic community, and also the mother of numerous abbeys throughout Italy.
