FORTALESA DE LA MOLA
Different tour agencies offer the visit of this fortress of La Mola, built to defend the port of Maó
The fortress of La Mola, also known as Isabel II, was built in the mid-19th century to defend the port of Maó from British attacks. The latter wanted to use Menorca as an anchorage point to fight the French and strengthen their control in the Mediterranean area. Later on, this fortress became the obligatory passage for travellers wishing to set foot on Menorca, where they had to undergo a quarantine. Various types of guided tours are available to visit it.
