COCO HILL FOREST
Just a coconut's throw from Flower Forest, Coco Hill Forest offers total immersion in nature. The initiator was hotelier Mahmood Patel, owner of the property. Interested by the quantity of imported products used in his establishment (the Ocean Spray at Silver Sands), he decided to buy this land in 2013 and embark on local agriculture in order to reconnect Barbadians to the earth. The idea is threefold: a "forest to table" project to supply hotels and restaurants with local produce; a regenerative agroforestry project to repair the damage caused by sugarcane monoculture; and a tropical flora conservatory with over 70 species of cultivated trees, fruit trees, spices and herbs (including a coconut nursery). A precious piece of primary forest, a rarity in Barbados, is also preserved here. Armed with a walking stick and a map, take a stroll along the many trails and let yourself be enveloped by the atmosphere of the forest, its lushness, the song of its birds... a true moment of relaxation. Depending on the trail you choose, you can also take a break to admire the view of the Atlantic. You can also grab a bite to eat at the property's snack bar.
Want to get more involved? Participate in Coco Hill's reforestation program by planting a tree (starting at 50 BBD) or, why not, spend a few hours (or even days) volunteering in gardening mode, to practice ecotourism.
