Cable & Wireless Earth Station
Not far from Bath Beach, this old concrete satellite station overlooking Congor Bay seems quite incongruous. Built by Cable & Wireless and opened with great fanfare in 1972, it connected Barbados to the world via its huge satellite dish. But technology evolves fast and, rendered obsolete, it closed in 1996 and has been abandoned ever since. Only the pillar that supported the antenna remains standing (the dish has disappeared), while the rest of the complex (control room, equipment room, etc.) bears witness to a bygone era. For curiosity seekers.
