Long Pond is one of the last more or less intact wetlands on the east coast. Located between Belleplaine and Walkers Reserve, it is a lagoon formed by the estuary of the Long Pond River, but also by water from the Atlantic Ocean when it manages to submerge the dunes that protect it. Its brackish waters and environment of meadows, woods, dunes and mangrove swamps are a prime habitat for many species of birds, insects, fish and crabs. A natural treasure to be visited without leaving a trace.
