AMMOULIANI ISLAND
The only inhabited island in Chalkidiki, in the Singitic Gulf opposite Ouranoupoli. Beautiful beaches, but very crowded in summer.
This 4.5 km2 island in the Singitic Gulf (Αμμουλιανή) is the only inhabited one in Chalkidiki: around 520 permanent inhabitants. Very, even too busy in summer, it boasts pretty beaches and coves, including Banana Beach, the most popular in the north. There are numerous restaurants and hotels on site, as well as a campsite near Alykes Beach in the south-west. Until 1925, the island belonged to the Athonite monastery of Vatopedi. It can be reached by ferry from the port of Tripiti (7 km west of Ouranoupoli) or by excursion boat from Ouranoupoli.
