SPELENHAUER – SPIESS
Dominique Spiess is a ceramist and Christian Fuchs a stove maker. They are craftsmen. Experts and partners too! They are among the last die-hard earthenware stove manufacturers in France, "stoves made from start to finish, and only the traditional", Dominique Spiess likes to remind us. Their creations are tailored to the tastes of each of their customers. They draw up a project and advise. This painstaking work, which requires patience and precision, is punctuated by several stages. Once the project has been drawn up, it's time to get down to work. To work well, you need the right tools and certain materials. Just as a mason needs his cement, these two craftsmen use clay as their base material. They use it to restore old stoves that are 200 to 300 years old. In other words, making new out of old! Other essential materials include earthenware for the tiles and firebrick for the hearth. But it takes three weeks in the workshop and three weeks on site. Their earthenware stoves can be seen in a number of historic sites, including the Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. Their prestigious references, from industrialists to the Kersauson family in Brittany, to châteaux in the Béarn region, testify to their undeniable expertise and quality. If you're just passing through, take the time to discover the work of these discreet craftsmen, whose work deserves even more praise!
