A tower with a rich history, built in 1889 by the Club Vosgien and which crowns the top of the massif of Faudé located at Orbey.
Built in 1889 by the Club Vosgien de Kaysersberg-Lapoutroie, this watchtower towers over the summit of the Faudé massif, which rises to 773 m. Its short history is full of twists and turns out to be one of history's great events: in 1915, when it served as a lookout point for the German army, the Tour du Faudé was destroyed by French shellfire. After the First World War, it was rebuilt in a hexagonal shape in 1934 and was then 16.50 m high. Ten years later, bis et repetita: the tower collapses under German shells! It wasn't until 1990, when the Friends of the Tower Association was created, that its reconstruction took shape. Nicknamed the "Fadas", the volunteers of the association became stone cutters and masons to rebuild the tower thanks to various types of funding (country festival on August 15, belote competition, Christmas market). Inaugurated in 2002, the Tour du Faudé is now accessible on foot from Orbey by following the Club Vosgien des disques bleus signs. But beware, the walk is steep, so it is reserved for sportsmen and brave walkers with good shoes. Once at the foot of the tower, you still have to climb 92 steps... But it's well worth the effort! From the top of its 16.50 m, a superb 360° view of the Alsace plain and the entire Vosges massif awaits you. For the little anecdote: etymologically, Faudé means "False God", in reference to the evil spirits that haunt the massif!
