HARDT FOREST
Gigantic wooded domain, a magnificent and well preserved forest whose fauna is made up of species common to Ottmarsheim
To the west of Mulhouse, the Hardt forest is a gigantic wooded estate, the second largest in the region after Haguenau. Owned by the Habsburgs, it reverted to Louis XIV at the end of the Thirty Years' War. Sessile oak is the dominant species in this forest, surrounded by a few pines and fruit trees: cherry, cranberry... The fauna is made up of common species such as wild boar, roe deer, rabbits... This magnificent, well-preserved forest is criss-crossed by numerous paths for the sole pleasure of walkers.
