The Dopf and Irion families can be traced back to the 16th century in the vineyard. They knew how to make their heritage bear fruit: the vineyard and the castle of Riquewihr, acquired in 1945. The estate offers a diversity of appellations, grape varieties and Grands Crus. Jewels for the palate, savor the sublime Pinot Gris Grand Cru Sporen Grand Cru 2019 (roasted pineapple, tarragon, citrus and blond tobacco) or the Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles 2015 (white flesh fruits, white pepper at the end). Opportunity to taste three wines at 10 euros whilst dropping in. The wines taste great but make sure you specify the types you’d like to try.

Je suis venu avec mes clients et j'ai été profondément déçu par l'accueil. La personne à l'accueil semblait plus préoccupée par ses e-mails que par les clients potentiels intéressés par l'achat de vin. Il n'y avait malheureusement aucun intérêt manifesté pour faire découvrir les vins et les vendre. C'est dommage, car je suis habituellement ouvert à de nouvelles découvertes, mais Dopff Irion ne figurera pas sur ma liste de recommandations à Riquewihr.

Busy during the Christmas markets season, we arrived as a bus tour group of Asians was finishing up. The one woman there doing tasting as well as ringing up the cash register did her very best but it was clear she was overwhelmed. But she sold a lot of wine and that's what matters.

We tasted several wines including a fantastic Blanc de Noirs Brut, a Riesling and a Pinot Gris. Delightful wines and since we're buying direct, the prices were quite reasonable. Under €25 for a bottle here that would easily be over $75 back in the States. Yes, this will be enjoyed very soon at my dinner table back home.
