This castle represents a beautiful example of military architecture, with its spur plan, its pentagonal keep and its square tower
It is one of the oldest castles in Alsace! It can be traced back to the beginning of the 11th century. Perched 542 metres high on a granite rock, it was in turn owned by the Counts of Eguisheim-Dabo, the Bishopric of Strasbourg and then by a private individual, Félix de Dartein, who had a vast residence built around 1835 with numerous outbuildings. The monument is a formidable witness to past military architecture, with its spur-shaped plan, its 18-metre high pentagonal keep and its square tower, which once contained a castle chapel. The seigneurial dwelling, also hexagonal in shape, is protected by loopholes and, on the first floor, you can admire beautiful round-headed windows.
