LAKE ALFELD
Access via the RD 466 towards the Ballon d'Alsace, 3 kilometers from Sewen. On the edge of the Doller valley, imagine a painting of rocks, waterfalls and dark forests. In the midst of all these warm colors, a blue expanse sketched on canvas in the shape of the Lac d'Alfeld dam, the result of glacial erosion, rises proudly. The dam was built between 1884 and 1887, during the German occupation, to regulate the flow of the Doller river. As early as 1883, the Germans had built a 30-metre-high dam to raise the water level. Inaugurated in 1888, the dam was hailed at the time as a technical feat. The reflections of the rocks and deciduous forests, the promontory topped by a chalet and the foam of the Wasserfall waterfall all contribute to creating an enchanting tableau. A picture you can bring to life by strolling around the lake, fishing and/or diving.
