Restaurant with a room with a bar for fast food and another more elegant room with about 30 seats
The orange façade of Chez Erhard sits somewhat high up in the village of Soppe-le-Bas, 20 minutes from Mulhouse on the way to Belfort. The restaurant opens onto a first room with a bar and a few tables for regulars and quick daily specials. A second, slightly more plush room seats around thirty, in a decor that's more old-fashioned than rustic, with red or brown tablecloths and a few odds and ends scattered here and there. The establishment has been family-run for several generations (a hundred years, after all), and unfortunately it's starting to show. The cuisine is a little like the rest, a little bland, and we wish the chef were a little more in love. The frogs' legs, which are the house specialty, are not unforgettable. The local "Maggi" is de rigueur with the soup to add flavor, and so much the better. The "bouchées à la reine" are served with mashed potatoes (but what about the spätzlés?) and as a mignardise with the coffee, half a croissant... Take the dessert with the menu, because you'll be charged for the coffee anyway, "we don't mix dishes and drinks". Duly noted.
