It was built by the Benedictines of Saint-Melaine around 1100. You can see a crypt from the 11th and 12th centuries. The square of the transept dates from the 14th and 16th centuries. It contains a Merovingian sarcophagus and the tomb of Saint Briac. At the beginning of the 16th century, two private chapels were built to the north and south of the choir, topped by a sacristy and a treasury respectively. In 1765, a fire destroyed the nave and the side aisles of the church. The church spire was destroyed by a hurricane in 1867 and rebuilt in 1869.
