BASILICA OF OUR LADY OF THIERENBACH
Our Lady of Thierenbach is the symbol of the most important Marian pilgrimage in the Upper Rhine
Notre-Dame-de-Thierenbach is the symbol of the Haut-Rhin's most important Marian pilgrimage. It was on the site of a supposed miracle that the Abbot of Cluny founded a Benedictine priory in 1130. The present Austrian Baroque church was built in the early 18th century, and became a minor basilica in 1936. The walls are adorned with ex-votos thanking or asking the Virgin Mary for help. During the Musicales de Thierenbach festival, numerous concerts are held in this historic venue.
