Dinan's ramparts, listed as a historic monument, include a keep, 14 towers and monumental gates
Classified as a historical monument, Dinan's ramparts encircle the entire city for 2.65 km, and consist of a keep, 14 towers and monumental gates. They are the work of the Breton sovereigns John IV and especially John V. Francis II, after his defeat at Saint-Aubin du Cormier, could have used it against the troops of the King of France. But, as a humanist sovereign, he preferred to declare Dinan an open city. There are many old houses in this belt, some of which are lucky enough to have a garden within the walls.
