NOTRE-DAME-DES-MARINS CHAPEL
Chapel of Our Lady of the Sailors of neo-Gothic style, which has become a place of devotion for the people of the sea and offers guided tours.
Built in 1867, in place of a 12th century sanctuary, Chapelle des Marins, whose former name was Chapel Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Saints, has become a place of devotion for seafarers. Chapel and crosses erected on a mound overlooking the village of Erquy, the neo-gothic style building is composed of a single vessel and has a chevet with cut-off sides. By entering, the "Wall of Perishes at Sea" will not fail to remind visitors how perilous the profession of sailor was, and still is today. Today, the chapel lives again thanks to the association Les Amis de la Chapelle des Marins, and is used as a place of worship and exhibitions: there are ex-voto models of ships such as the Albatros or the three-masted ships Sancta Maria and Stella Maria, or the Sainte Jeanne, a replica of which is anchored in the port of Erquy. In summer, several times a week, the association welcomes you for guided tours.
