Well-preserved Cap d'Erquy, with hiking trails and circuits, some of which are accessible to bicycles and baby carriages

Along with Cap Fréhel, it has been awarded the Grand Site de France label since 2019. A little less frequented than its famous neighbor, Cap d'Erquy is a place of exceptional beauty: its pink sandstone cliffs, capped by pine woods and moorlands colored by gorse and heather, overlook wild beaches. This vast, well-preserved 170-hectare site is criss-crossed by footpaths and hiking trails. Some are even accessible to bicycles and baby carriages.
You can also see a number of heritage features, including a cannonball oven and an 18th-century guardhouse. In the Port-Blanc cove, you'll find the old lifeboat shelter, with its rails running down the slipway. Another human footprint is the Blue Lakes. These two cliff-lined freshwater lakes, perched more than 30 metres above the sea, are the remains of ancient pink sandstone quarries. They recall an important part of local history: in the 19th and mid-20th centuries, Erquy developed the extraction of pink sandstone, a sedimentary rock used in construction and street paving. Access to the lakes is via a staircase leading from the port of Erquy.
The tip of the cape offers superb views over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. Off-season parking is available nearby, but the few spaces are quickly filled. Choose the large parking lot on rue de la Côte des Pâques: from there, a 5 km circuit will take you to the tip, via the moors and the Lourtuais beach.
