VAUROUAULT CASTLE
Castle built around 1688 for Charles Gouyon, has a French garden where the wall and the watchtowers remain.
Isolated in the valley of the Frémur, south of the town of Fréhel, stands the castle of Vaurouault, property of the family Gouyon du Vaurouault. For information, the castle is private and can not be visited. It was built around 1688 for Charles Gouyon, captain-general of the coastguard of Matignon and governor of Fort la Latte by the architect Simon Garengeau. Of its French garden, only the enclosing wall and its watchtowers remain today. The buildings are built of sandstone, schist and granite rubble.
