ANCIENNE PRISON DE GUINGAMP
After a major restoration project, the former Guingamp prison opened its doors to the public in April 2019. Built from 1836 to 1841, after the Tocqueville report on American prisons, it proposes a new model of architecture, in the Pennsylvanian style, more humanistic, with cells organized around a central courtyard. All year round, an open house allows visitors to follow the sound trail "of words and walls", telling the story of the prison through short fictions (helmets and tablets are available free of charge). A guided tour is offered in July and August by the Guingamp - Baie de Paimpol tourist office. Feel free to go to the ground floor and also discover the temporary exhibitions (free visit) of the GwinZegal art centre, dedicated to photography. Discover Les Échappées, a program outside the walls of the Théâtre du Champ au Roy, in the central courtyard of the prison.
