LANLEFF TEMPLE
A primitive Romanesque building, a church constituting the oldest medieval building still standing in the department.
This curious pink sandstone building, in the primitive Romanesque style, does not fail to intrigue. It is in fact a church, built around the 10th century, constituting the oldest medieval building still standing in the department. Its plan, formed of two concentric enclosures, is very rare, evoking the church of Sainte-Croix in Quimperlé and the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. There remain 12 majestic arches, forming a rotunda surrounded by an ambulatory. The capitals and the bases of the columns are sculpted with numerous geometric motifs, animals and characters.
