CHURCH OF LOC-ENVEL
Church of flamboyant gothic style, with strange chimeras and impressive gargoyles on the outside in Loc-Envel
4 kilometres south of Belle-Isle-en-Terre, the building is worth a detour. Listed as a Historic Monument, this flamboyant Gothic style church (15th-16th centuries) has strange chimeras and impressive gargoyles on the outside. Inside, the carved wooden decoration of the 16th century has remained intact. The stained glass windows in the apse depict the life of Saint Envel, a 6th century hermit. Linger on the one depicting two wolves attacking a child, while a man and a woman on their knees implore Envel, dressed as an abbot, cross and mitred.
