THIEF'S ROCK

Rocher du Voleur ('Karreg the laer' in Breton) is a fortified complex. The harbor of Port-Blanc was fortified and guarded in the fifteenth century, following the attacks of the English. The first guard was set up by Vauban (Marshal of France under Louis XIV). A wall was thus built on the rock in 1694 to protect the coast from sea attacks. Until the Revolution, a gun battery was placed there. You can observe the foundations of an ancient fort, majestically overlooking delightful little coves. The old guard has been converted into a garage during the twentieth century. The arms of the Plusquellec family, lord of Kergasdel in Penvénan are identifiable on the east gable. The Plusquellecs were the lords of Kergastel since the fifteenth century.
