VERDELET ISLAND
A rare, fragile pyramid-shaped islet, home to a seabird reserve and a sand spit punctuated by pebbles.
Legend has it that it was Gargantua who, embarrassed by a pebble in his boot during a walk, sent it waltzing out to sea, giving birth to Verdelet. This pyramidal islet has been home to a seabird reserve since 1973. It is one of the rare nesting sites of the great cormorant. During high tides, a sandy beach with pebbles is revealed: it is then possible to walk to the islet, in about 20 minutes. Be careful, the place is fragile and climbing on the rock is forbidden. The area around Verdelet is also a great place for fishing.
