Throughout the region, the cod fishery was intensively practised in Iceland and Newfoundland from 1852 to 1935. In 1895, there were up to 82 armed vessels for large fishing. During this period, 120 schooners disappeared, 70 lost body and well. About 2 000 sailors perished in the sea of Iceland or Newfoundland. In order to honour the missing, the families had painted in painted wood, cross, couronnes crowns, marble, from the end of the th century. These plates are visible on the west wall wall of the cemetery, in the centre of the village, adjacent to the former presbytery. It covers about 100 metres.
