12th century castle, composed of two castles with elegant apartments and family collections, organized activities
Founded in the 12th century, the Quintin estate has belonged to the same family for centuries. Today inhabited by the de Bagneux family, it comprises two châteaux of very different appearances. The first, overlooking the pond, was built in 1640 by the Marquis de La Moussaye. It was intended to be the largest classical château in Brittany, but as fervent Protestants, the La Moussaye family encountered the hostility of the Church and the King, as well as the impossibility of meeting the cost of the work. As a result, the building remained unfinished. In the 18th century, a new château was built from the stables and outbuildings of the old one. This is the part of the château that is now inhabited and open to the public. Discover the elegant ground-floor apartments: salons, library, duchess's bedroom... Tours are conducted by the owners themselves, making them all the more personal. They also showcase the "marvels" of their family collections, particularly in the area of tableware (porcelain, glassware, silverware, etc.), as well as vintage clothes, bottles, etc. Theatrical tours are also available. The two buildings are surrounded by a beautiful French park and 15th-century ramparts. A vast project is currently underway to restore the old château and the Archives tower, which will be the site of an arts and crafts project. The château is also the venue for a number of events, including candlelit dinners in summer, games of inquiry...
