Classified as a historical Building since 1964, the Cross was named "Sansonnet Cross" at the time when it was located in the hamlet of Pré-Tizon, on the old Quintin road. It became "Croix Mathias" when bishop Mathias Le Groing La Romagère restored it around 1825. At the time when the railway was constructed, Pré-Tizon was transformed into a dead end. The cross was moved to the crossroads where the bestowing and the square, which is one of the entrances to the city is found.
