ELECTROTHEQUE FROM LAKE GUERLÉDAN
This electro-library is a real invitation to Edison en herbe and lovers of industrial tourism. This museum retraces the great history of electricity and its many uses, and tells the story of the Guerlédan dam built between 1922 and 1930 on the Blavet; the artificial lake of Guerlédan being the largest reservoir in Brittany. The water used for electricity production and river low-water support is piped to the EDF plant, which can be visited. Gallery below water level and dam crest will lead you on this unusual journey. During the emptying of the lake (the last one took place in 2015), you can discover the old valley with its lock houses, towpath, gardens, locks and weirs. A journey back in time! The project involved the construction of locks parallel to the dam to maintain river traffic on the canal from Nantes to Brest. This initiative never came to fruition, dividing the Nantes-Brest canal into two navigation sections: to the west, the Finistère branch and to the east, the Loire Atlantique and Morbihan branch. In fact, it accelerated the gradual abandonment of the canal already damaged by the arrival of the railway in central Brittany.
