THE CITY OF MARIO
Ville-Mario is an old fortified town built on marshes. The primitive castle had disappeared, and was replaced by farm houses. The perimeter wall that remains, measures about 4 meters high at certain points and is pierced by three doors. The name Ville-Mario was documented for the first time in 1380. It became even more famous during the Revolution. In 1795, a fight started out between Chouans and emigrants against the republican soldiers of Portrieux. The royalists were surprised by the republicans as they gathered to off load some weapons. The conflict ended with the dispersion or the imprisonment of two hundred Chouans by the “blues”
