ST. LOUIS CHURCH
Church of modern architecture located in Brest, dedicated to Saint Louis, King Louis IX
Destroyed during the bombings in 1944 and rebuilt in 5 years from 1953 to 1958, Saint-Louis church is an important monument in the city of Brest. It is also the largest French sacred building rebuilt after the war. Its resolutely modern architecture, which is not like the style of Breton churches, was a shared will of the clergy and the municipality of the time. The interior, very sober, has 11 impressive glass windows, which represent biblical figures and let in the light. Outside, the concrete covered with Logonna-Daoulas' ochre stone gives the church a golden colour. True originality, this work of art is sometimes misunderstood by the Brest inhabitants and visitors, but challenges the history of the city.
