SAINT-SAUVEUR CHURCH
To see the oldest church in the city, you just need to go to one of the city's historic areas, Recouvrance, on the right bank of Penfeld. Marked by an anecdotic construction, Saint-Sauveur church has become an important element of the religious architectural heritage and is integrated into circuits' tours of Brest... In 1740, the contractor who then supervised the work had hired "harbour workers" specialised in shipbuilding and not in masonry. There was then need to entirely rebuild the building that had kept the nickname "l'église du temps perdu" (the church of lost time) for many years. But fortunately, for some unknown hazard of history and contrary to other Brest buildings, the church only underwent very little damage during the Second World War.
