ABRI SADI-CARNOT
Visit to discover a shelter full of history in Brest, a place of commemoration and memory but also of information.
The Sadi-Carnot shelter was the scene of Brest's most tragic event of the Second World War: dug in 1941 and 1942 in response to the city's bombardment, on September 9, 1944 a fire in this underground shelter claimed the lives of 373 Brest residents. Nearly 600 German soldiers also perished in the disaster. The shelter has since been renovated several times to make it a place of commemoration and remembrance, but also of information. The entrance to the underground is located on boulevard de la Marine, near the Tourville gate.
