This fortress is probably the oldest witness of the construction of the city of Brest.

This fortress dominating the mouth of the Penfeld after 17 centuries of history is probably the oldest witness of the construction of the city of Brest. Originally a Roman castellum, it was completed by Vauban in the 17th century. Having survived the ravages of time, it was classified as a historical monument in 1923. Today, it houses the maritime prefecture, the command of the strategic oceanic force as well as an annex of the National Museum of the Navy. Themed visits, animations and magnificent view of the ramparts, everything is gathered for a fun and pleasant visit!

Opening time and information on BREST CASTLE

Open all year round. Low season: Wednesday to Monday, 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm. High season: daily from 10am to 6:30pm. Annual closure in January. Closed on December 25, January 1 and May 1 Please note that access to the site is difficult for people with reduced mobility. Adults: €10 (€9 online). Vacation vouchers. Guided tour (3€). Free-access store.

une belle visite à faire pour connaître l'histoire de Brest et sur sa reconstruction après la seconde guerre mondiale. Très sympa de longer les remparts, jolie vue sur la rade de Brest.

Le château de Brest en plus d'abriter le musée national de la marine est aussi une magnifique construction qui surplombe le port militaire de Brest. Ses extérieurs avec ses jardins sa cour, ses remparts sont un bouffée d'air pur pour tous (attention c'est toujours venté). La vue sur la rade est magnifique surtout lorsque le soleil devient rasant.
