NATIONAL BOTANICAL CONSERVATORY GARDEN
Founded in 1975 by the visionary Jean-Yves Lesouëf, the National Botanical Conservatory of Brest was the first establishment in the world entirely devoted to the protection of endangered species. Located in the southern part of the Stang-Alar valley, its garden covers 30 hectares and is home to the largest concentration of rare plants in France. Time seems to stand still, the impression of peace is immediate. As you stroll along the paths, you will see the harbour of Brest, walk along ponds and discover nearly 4,000 different species of plants from all over the world! A visit to the greenhouse will plunge you into a tropical world covering almost 1,000 m². If you would like to find out more, opt for the guided tours: they are full of amusing anecdotes about the history of these endangered plants. The most significant one is that of the Cylindrocline lorencei species, an extinct Mauritian plant which was able to come back to life at the conservatory thanks to a seed frozen 35 years ago by the park's founder! A lush "green museum" that is a must see. You will not be surprised to meet many families who appreciate the tranquility of the place and its rich beauty. You can stroll around, stop to read or play with the children in the dedicated areas. Feeling a little hungry? A creperie awaits you at one end of the park. On the other, it's already the White Mill, the beach and the marina. Guaranteed to make you fall in love.
