A flagship brand of the Laïta cooperative company, Paysan breton was born 46 years ago in the heart of the Finistère countryside, in Landerneau. Its products, without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, are made from milk collected from its 7,000 dairy farmers, mainly in Brittany and more widely in western France. Paysan breton is a member of the association Produit en Bretagne.

History. At the origin of the Paysan breton brand, there is a cooperative committed to supporting and accompanying Breton farmers and to perpetuating the authentic flavours of local recipes.

In July 1969, the first Breton peasant butter was made at the butter factory in Landerneau (Finistère). It is presented in a white paper. In 1972, vichy-polish packaging, a sign of recognition of the Paysan breton brand, appeared on the shelves. It quickly became the symbol of good taste, combining tradition and simplicity. Since 1975, the brand has continued to develop and expand its range. In particular, it launched Madame Loïk Nature smoothies with Guérande salt in 1997. Now available in 7 flavours, the little Breton freshness has made its way to the top brands in this department. Cooperative, supportive of breeders and a guarantee of quality, the brand is attracting more and more consumers and in 2015 even became one of the Top 30 most purchased brands in France. Sold in more than 90 countries, the brand remains attached to its Breton roots, as proof of this, the latest addition to the range: crepes filled with Plougastel strawberry jam.

The products. Butters, whipped cheeses, pancakes, filled pancakes, ribot milk, thick cream and tray cheeses. New: salted butter caramel spread and fermented milk.

Employment. Breton farmer represents 20% of Laïta's total turnover. The brand generated €269 million in 2018. In 2019, the brand celebrates its 50th anniversary and wishes to strengthen its cheese business. Currently, 650 tonnes of Emmental cheese are produced each year, Paysan Breton aims to produce 1,000 tonnes by 2020.
